Cable Protection Assessment

Using our integrated fault database and decades of experience, we’re able to produce a definitive report that aims to identify the root cause of reoccurring or unexpected faults on in-service cables and propose practical solutions to improve the reliability of the system.

An unusually high fault rate is often due to unexpected environmental conditions, or changes in the pattern of human activity over the cable.

In many cases, these challenging environments will only have come to light after the installation of the cable.

With an unrivalled understanding of cable fault causes through our industry-leading integrated cable fault database, OceanIQ’s Cable Protection Assessment (CPA) uses the available information about an in-service cable system to describe the  root cause of faults and propose solutions for preventing them in the future.

We tailor our CPA process to the unique situation of each cable, based on discussions with our client and the amount of data available for the analysis. This may include information from the original desktop study, survey data, installation, and repair reports; as well as external sources of data such as AIS ship tracking and vessel identification.

The output of the technical analysis will be detailed in a report. That report will describe the process used to identify the causes of the unexpected faults and include a discussion of the protection options that our engineers have designed for the cable, including a summary of the advantages and disadvantages associated with each option.

Determining reliable cable ampacities for marine high voltage cables.

Determining reliable cable ampacities for marine High Voltage Cables is currently the subject of significant industry and academic reassessment in order to optimise the operation (ampacity), design (cross-sectional area) and subsequent efficiency, longevity, CAPEX and profitability of both submarine power cables and their dependencies (Enescu et...
